Domotz is a RMM (remote monitoring and management) diagnostic solution in an IoT World. It is best described as a combination of PRTG, the Network Monitor (https://www.paessler.com/), and TeamViewer, the remote support solution (https://www.teamviewer.com). The Domotz Solution includes three components: the Domotz Pro Mobile Application, the Domotz Cloud and the Domotz Network Agent.
What is a Domotz Network Agent
The Domotz (software) Agent can be deployed on various (hardware) platforms, however the best solution comes pre-installed for out of the box, plug and play RMM, from Domotz themselves (Domotz Box Solution).
How does the Agent work?
The Domotz Pro Box Agent acts as a proxy in the monitored network. This is the big advantage of Domotz pro, it has the unique advantage of the network manager being directly, ie locally, in the respective network. That means that all kinds of maintenance, configuration or access is done via the cloud, without VPN, external IP address or port forwarding. This means that an administrator can access from anywhere – whether from a smartphone or his local PC – to directly administer the network.
Domotz Pro supports all available SNMP sensors of a recognized network device. In practical terms this means that any type of alarm can be configured, forwarding as push messages or emails, in real time. With these tools one is informed continously about the network status, whether it be that the toner in the printer is running low or that someone is using a memory stick on the server. In addition, the Internet speed is measured continuously by default. If configured with an alarm, one is immediately informed when the Internet is too slow or interrupted.
What about the Domotz Box?
The Domotz Box (NZ$ 199.00) is a Plug & Play device. This means that when first connected into the network, the entire network is analysed and inventoried, with the MAC addresses of devices being compared with the manufacturers specification, thus confirming the type of network device present. Domotz is the worldwide market leader for MAC address information and mapping. This database is used to provide the Domotz agent with the correct information. With this combined matching, the data quickly reveals the complete overview of the network, without any operator intervention, enabling you to work with the Domotz agent without delay. In order to integrate external devices, VLANs can also be configured to monitor them through the same Domotz agent.
With the network graphically displayed, you have direct access to all the network components. By clicking on a device all available ports are immediately suggested in order to access the respective interface, similar to working locally via Ethernet in the network. You can also view the network interfaces directly, such as speed and latency. The latency information is logged, directly indicating any problems in the network. This allows inconsistencies in the device or IP conflicts to be detected and resolved immediately. This information can also be linked to an alarm.
The Domotz Agent is also able to detect and combat intruders or network attacks immediately. The network security can be significantly increased by the UDP and TCP port scanner working in real time. Additionally, there is a blacklist which manages the unwanted IP addresses and blocks them permanently.
Domotz Pro offers sophisticated management to ensure the security of access to the agents and the networks. The software allows you to monitor virtually unlimited networks, which are clearly displayed in Google Earth. It is a very convenient and extremely powerful solution providing an administrator the tools to provide their customer real-time monitoring, at an affordable price.
Many manufacturers have already formed alliances with Domotz to directly support network devices. For example, supported Samsung TV devices can be controlled directly via Wake on Lan and routers can be used for additional information.
An important part of network monitoring is the logging of all events. All kinds of reports can be created via the API. As an example, if the customer wanted to receive an email every morning 8.00 am, detailing all powered computers overnight and additionally a presence log of the employees, they could easily generate this via the API. The possibilities and options are endless. Domotz also provides an SDK to integrate the Domotz Pro software into an existing software application or to develop additional software.
Domotz can also provide an analysis team that can respond to specific customer needs.
As a service-level agreement (SLA) solution
The Domotz solution is the ideal tool to offer IT services that can be integrated into an SLA. For companies with branch offices Domotz can easily be used as a plug & play solution. For example, if the customer has fifty branch offices, they only have to distribute the agent boxes where any employee then connects them to the internal network. That's it!
Now the administrator can add all agents to the client via the serial number and activate them. It couldn't be easier. No matter if you’re an IT service provider, Internet service provider or simply an IT manager, with the Domotz Pro solution you get a cost-effective and efficient solution to get professional and competent help.
